Top 10 random stuff about my life lately

Last weeks have been quite busy.. Almost no time to write, almost no time to sit down and reflect.

Here goes a short summary of what happened in the meanwhile:

1. Trip to Bahrain, to support "Red & Yellow" soccer team at the Middle East Soccer Tournament. Just great to hang out with everyone and getting to know a little bit more of the dynamics of this great company. Pictures will come soon (I just need to find a replacement for flicker..). Plus I had the chance to spend some quality time with Eric and just talk about life, AIESEC (of course!!) and Middle East.. Thanks for your hospitality! And thank you also to Ameera for the nice tour to Bahrain's Museum. It was a pleasure meeting you! :)

2. Rain. Although my car had already been replaced and therefore no obvious reason for raining :) it seems that it rained anyway. Actually it was heavily raining one entire day of this week and we had some thunder and lightning too! I loved the smeel of the wet desert sand.. amazing! But I have to admit that I am a heat lover! :) Happy that the good weather is back again!!

3. Loads of work. I am so thrilled with my current responsabilities and with all the stuff I am developing for the year.. Sometimes I just wished the day had more than 24 hours!

4. I bought a new dress (as always, I believe it is important to share these small details of my precious life). It is so cute and delicate! Andt seems straight out of the "Stepford Wives" movie! :)

5. Car hunt. Still no good news on that front. Damn I need to find a cute car quick, before the rent a car company makes me spend all my savings... If you have a cute car or 4x4 for sale in Dubai, let me know!

6. Apartment. I bought a TV & DVD. We now socialize around DVDs, Oprah's show and this wife swaping program (nothing better than watching someone else crappy life and attitude to enjoy yours a little bit more).

7. lalalalala.

8. Bought a video camera for my laptop.I f you grab me on skype or msn you can now see my nice face online and, if lucky, I will even show you my new dress and give you a tour around my apartment! eheh :)

9. Going to the gymn twice a week, a bottle of water a day and eating properly (well, kind of.. and not counting that McBuguer the other day)

10. I dont really have much more to say, but since I wrote on the title I had 10 things to say... Please ignore "random stuff" no.7 and no.10 :)

Questions & Probabilities

1. What is the probability of experiencing your rear window flying out of the car at full speed and crashing into the road?

2. What is the probability of heavy rains in Dubai?

The answer is 100% if you add me to the equation.

Result = A rent a car with no rear window, back seats soaked with water, not to mention important documents. Oh, and did I mention the parking fine when I decided to go to a local shopping mall for 3 min and grab a McDonalds meal?! (just because I thought I deserved it after such a bad start of the week?!)

Comments beyond a cartoon

Basically, both sides are acting disrespectfully.

I dont agree that "freedom of speech" should justify your actions. It doesnt. As Ruslan said in his comment and many philosophers in the past too, our freedom finishes when someone else freedom starts. We are all responsible for our acts, and if there is no God to guide our acts, then at least there should be Moral.
On the other hand I also dont agree that violence is justified in this case (and, as matter of fact, in most, if not all cases.. but that is another big issue)

Oce again, for me, this entire case is not about the cartoon.
It is about a widening gap between two opponents. As I heard someone saying yesterday on CNN, this entire "incident" will make us take one (huge) step back in our efforts for cultural understanding and has only serve the purpose of deepening the existent stereotypes of both sides.

On one hand we will have the western world that is disrespectful of the Muslim/Arab world, that doesnt wish to integrate both worlds and that is always trying to pick up a fight or in search for oil. And one the other hand we will have the Muslim World that is always extremist and ready for violence and terrorism.

Unfortunately, the media play a major role in all of this and it clearly seems that pushing for this kind of perspectives is what "sells". Therefore "hate creates hate", and it clearly spreads faster than "love creates love". It has always been like this and unfortunately I believe it will remain till the end of times. That is the human nature.

The same human nature that was behind the Crusades, witch hunting, KKK, World War I and II, just to name a few.

My only hope is that the Light will still prevail and that somehow cultural and religious understanding will find their place in this troubled world. But I have to say that, unfortunately, my belief is slightly loosing its strength. I hear things nowadays, from people I know, that I never expected to hear and that scares me.

Still, as Sartre would put it: in a Godless world, we are free to do whatever we want, but we are also responsible for it.

Come what may.

Comments on a cartoon

I didnt want to talk about this. I honestly didnt.
I was honestly hoping it would go away.. so that I could still have faith.

But it didnt and it just makes me feel sad.
This entire situation makes me feel so sad, especially being in the Middle East.

Please dont take me wrong, I respect the fact that many people were really affected by the cartoons and I respect the fact that they consider it blasphemy and truly disrespectful.

But I dont understand why would you want to "start a war" over a cartoon. I dont understand why would someone stop consuming danish products or burning embassies. I dont.

This entire situation just seems too ridiculous and somehow a cartoon itself of the world we are currently living in.

One teacher of mine always said "never underestimate human stupidity" and I cant stop thing of how right he his. When will we be able to understand or differences, our similarities, our world without having to continuously threaten eachother with violence?

Ok. The cartoon is bad. I might have a different opinion, but I do respect yours. But please dont came and tell me that you should retaliate like this. Please dont come and tell me that a cartoon justifies death and violence. I dont buy it.

The "western world", if we can call it like that, has still so much to learn from the muslim culture and religion... Why not using this opportunity to show the real face of Mohammed? Why not use this "lack of knowledge" to spread His word? Instead you are spreading violence. And once again, unfortunately, that will be what the "western world" will see as being a muslim or being an arab. And they couldnt be more wrong.
