Comments on a cartoon

I didnt want to talk about this. I honestly didnt.
I was honestly hoping it would go away.. so that I could still have faith.

But it didnt and it just makes me feel sad.
This entire situation makes me feel so sad, especially being in the Middle East.

Please dont take me wrong, I respect the fact that many people were really affected by the cartoons and I respect the fact that they consider it blasphemy and truly disrespectful.

But I dont understand why would you want to "start a war" over a cartoon. I dont understand why would someone stop consuming danish products or burning embassies. I dont.

This entire situation just seems too ridiculous and somehow a cartoon itself of the world we are currently living in.

One teacher of mine always said "never underestimate human stupidity" and I cant stop thing of how right he his. When will we be able to understand or differences, our similarities, our world without having to continuously threaten eachother with violence?

Ok. The cartoon is bad. I might have a different opinion, but I do respect yours. But please dont came and tell me that you should retaliate like this. Please dont come and tell me that a cartoon justifies death and violence. I dont buy it.

The "western world", if we can call it like that, has still so much to learn from the muslim culture and religion... Why not using this opportunity to show the real face of Mohammed? Why not use this "lack of knowledge" to spread His word? Instead you are spreading violence. And once again, unfortunately, that will be what the "western world" will see as being a muslim or being an arab. And they couldnt be more wrong.

I would say "nobody" would be pleased in being spectator or part of world where such things happen... still can't. I am not sure how transparent I can be as someone coming from muslim society.after I had seen the caricature. Definitely violence will not retaliate, dialog is only way out.Afterall none of religion confirms the voilence.

From other side it makes me hard to figure out what was the expectation of the civilized world as caricaturist, as showing "great" consolidation behind "freedom of speech" when we all together try to defeat the terrorism, to not let the other 9/11. From the common knowledge, every creature knows that "one's freedom ends when the other's freedom starts". All this gives me sense that it s nothing more than "provocation" and "collaborationism". unfortunately people are provoked and in such situation boycoting products might be only acceptable reaction among horrible killed priest, burned buildings or invaded country

I would save life, peace rather than making "speech of freedom".

Hi Ana,
Yeah I've been trying hard not to get sucked into this discussion too, but I will comment for you:
If I went to the Bronx, Harlem, Compton, South Side Chicago / Atlanta with a big sign that read "I hate ..... (insert derrogatory name for African-Americans)".... what would happen? I would likely be beaten or killed rather than have respectful discourse over "I disagree but respect your opinion."

Sure under the constitution I have the "right" to say that, but does that mean I should exercise that right, considering the foreseable consequences? The constitution also protects the KKK and anti-gay speech for that matter.

Anyone with half a brain knows that such irreverent cartoons would be considered blasphemy in Islam, and while different people will react differently, is there a reason to incite violence / religious hatred? I don't agree with widespread violence over cartoons, and the wholesale boycotts of products from the originating country due to a few people's idiocy, but I also don't agree with the western condescendence and arrogance to assume a much older and richer civilization needs to be taught about "free speech." As I've often been heard saying when in a stubborn mood "it's not what you said, it's how you said it."

as one democrat in his mature days redefined the "free speech" as "free speech is a vessel". it s possible to put anything even slops.all we need to know that our freedom boundaried with others freedom...
